Jonathan Gutierrez will be returning to play his sophomore season after helping the Hawks to the Championship Game in 2008. Joining him will be Alex Flores, transferring from Spartanburg Methodist College, Region X Finalist last season, and Adrian Menin, transferring from Southern Wesleyan University. Coach Heberling feels their experiences and competing at that level will positively influence the team this fall.
To prepare for the upcoming season Coach Heberling recruited numerous freshmen to the squad. “It is my hope that these young players will come in focused, determined, and ready to compete for playing time this season,” said Coach Heberling. The Hawks have very talented players coming in from various areas of South Carolina that had successful careers at the high school and club level. Richard Dorn, Chip Sox, Anthony Morales, Aaron Ransdell, Sterling Shytle, JT Mula, and Daniel Ramey earned honors at various levels this past spring for their high school teams. In addition to those outstanding athletes, Taylor Porter, of Bishop England, and John Antaki, of South Aiken, will add to the strength of the squad. Both players come from high school championship programs.
Coach Heberling is excited to start his first year after spending the last seven years at Iowa Wesleyan College. He stated, “Just like most of the players, I am new to TCTC and we will have some growing pains, but looking at the past successes of each player on our roster I feel we can make some significant improvements to our program this season. I am looking forward to further developing each player in the classroom and on the pitch, while also strengthening our program to be competitive in Region X for years to come. This year is our first in laying a foundation of strength for future years.”
With so much depth, talent, and optimism for the 2010 season, the Hawks seem well on their way to improving the program. TCTC will have their first challenge against Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) in a pre-season scrimmage on August 18th at 7:00 pm on the SWU campus. Their first Region X match is set for September 5th at USC-Sumter and the first home match is against Louisburg College, reigning Region X Champions, at 3:00 pm on September 7th at Nettles Park in Clemson.
