vs. Sumter
On Friday evening the Hawks had a rematch with the Fire Ants of USC-Sumter.  In the first meeting Sumter knocked off TCTC 2-0, with two first half goals.  The second contest would prove more exciting and dramatic than the first.  After a slow start in which both teams missed scoring opportunities it was the visiting squad that got on the board first going up 1-0.  The Lady Hawks fought back hard and got their chance when there was a foul called in the penalty box.  Beth Parker stepped up to take the penalty kick and was initially stopped by the Sumter goalkeeper.  Fortunately, Beth Parker would have a second chance to score since a USC-Sumter player entered the box too early.  Beth took advantage of the opportunity and scored the first goal in women's soccer history at TCTC.  With the score tied 1-1 the game continued to be back and forth.  The Fire Ants found the back of the net once again to take a 2-1 lead and came into the half with the same score.

The second half opened up more, as each team started to attack the others goal with more fury.  Sinead Byrne tied the score after receiving a wonderful through ball from Beth Parker, and making a long run down the open field.  With energy and confidence high, the Hawks continued to pressure the USC-Sumter backline.  Beth Parker broke free and scored her second goal of the game to take the lead 3-2 with 12 minutes remaining in the match.  For the first time the Hawks were playing with the lead and then the game found an even faster pace.  Sumter attacked in numbers and pressured right away and scored their third goal to tie the match.  This tying goal was deflating to the TCTC players as they gave up the fourth and winning goal to Sumter just a short time later.  The final eight minutes of the match were back-and-forth, but the Sumter defense held strong and the Lady Hawks could not build anymore scoring opportunities.

"Today's match was extremely exciting!! After not scoring any goals in our first five games we were able to score three in this one match.  I think our biggest problem today was not knowing how to play with a lead.  We tried to change some things around, but our emotions got the best of us and we couldn't preserve the lead.  With time we will learn how to play with a lead and what needs to be done to preserve the lead." Coach Heberling continued to say, “I think we will see more confidence from our team in the future. They know they can compete with teams, but we were never able to put one in the goal.  The team knows what it feels like to score and what it feels like to lose a close game.  Hopefully, they can learn from this game and build with it for the future."

The Hawks next game is Saturday at USC-Lancaster and Wednesday at USC-Salkehatchie in Allendale.  The Lady Hawks are currently 0-6 on the year.  Beth Parker was selected POG by the Sumter team after the game.

vs. USC-Lancaster
After an emotional and exhausting game on Friday evening the TCTC Lady Hawks went to USC-Lancaster to face the Lancers.  Unfortunately, for TCTC they only had 11 players available to play on Saturday.  The short rest and low numbers would be a major factor in the game.  TCTC came out quickly to open the match surprising the Lancers defensively.  "We had some scoring opportunities right away, but didn't finish them," Coach Heberling said.  Unfortunately, the Lancers took advantage of their first scoring opportunity and took the lead 1-0.  The Hawks defense held strong and fought back and forth with the Lancers but couldn't score.  USC-Lancaster scored one more goal in the first half to come into the break, up 2-0 on the Lady Hawks.

After some half-time adjustments the Hawks started the second half strong and Beth Parker was able to score her third goal of the season on an assist from Bre Kowaleski, the goalkeeper.  The goal, again built confidence in the Lady Hawks as they began to attack more and more but the Lancer defense proved too strong.  USC-Lancaster found a time to counter attack and scored a devastating third goal to take the lead 3-1.  The Lady Hawks couldn’t fight back from the third goal and the final score stayed 3-1.

"We played well today with only having 11 girls.  Each game we seem to take a couple of steps forward and as soon as we are back to a full-squad we will improve even more.  The girls have come a long way and are now competing in matches.  We have gone from playing defensive to being able to attack.  Our next goal is to get out and score first in a match and then learn how to play with a lead." Coach Heberling continued to state, "It is all coming together and by the end of the season you will see a different team on the field than in the first two weeks."

TCTC travels to Allendale, SC to take on USC-Salkehatchie on Wednesday, before having 15 days off before their next match.  For her efforts in goal the USC-Lancaster team honored Bre Kowaleski with the POG for the day.

vs SMC 9/15/10

On Wednesday, September 15th the Lady Hawks hit the field again, for their fifth game in 12 days. The women opened the half extremely strong and attacked the Spartanburg Methodist goal. Julia Campbell missed a shot just over the bar early in the half for an opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.

After a few other opportunities the SMC Pioneers went on the offensive. Joy Griffin stopped a Penalty Kick in the 20th minute, but the constant pressure on the TCTC defense led to an SMC goal to go up 1-0.

After the goal SMC continued to pressure the TCTC defense and ended the half leading 3-0.

The second half saw more pressure from the SMC team as they scored very quickly after the whistle to go up 4-0 on the TCTC Lady Hawks. After SMC scored their fifth goal with 25 minutes left in the game, the Hawks defense stood strong and kept the Pioneers from finding the back of the net for the rest of the match.

Coach Heberling commented, "We came out strong and confident today. It was nice to see the ladies put pressure on the other team. We had some great opportunities to take an early lead, but just couldn't will the ball into the goal."

" Overall, I saw some great building blocks and signs of future success. Once we get a full and healthy team we will turn the corner and be more competitive."

The Lady Hawks play against USC-Sumter at home on Friday at 3:00 pm at Nettles Park in Clemson. The Fireants knocked off TCTC 2-0 earlier in the season.

The TCTC Lady Hawks are now 0-5 on the season. For her efforts in the midfield against Spartanburg Methodist Beth Parker was awarded POG (Player of the Game).

Vs. Sumter
The TCTC Women's Soccer team kicked off their inaugural season at USC-Sumter on September 5th. In the first ever match the Lady Hawks fought hard, but came up on the losing end 2-0. Both goals were scored in the first half by the Fire Ants, and after some second half changes the team fought hard and stayed even with the experienced Sumter squad. "The women played extremely well today," commented Coach, Ed Heberling, "for our first game out we showed many positives and have the foundation to build from. As we continue to play and develop we will find our successes."

Adele Stuchbury was selected by the Sumter program as the Player of the Game. Adele made numerous key saves in goal for TCTC.

Vs. Louisburg
After a tough defeat versus USC-Sumter, the Lady Hawks played their first home match against defending Region X Champions, Louisburg. This game would be extremely challenging for the young and inexperienced Lady Hawks. After giving up an early goal to open the contest, TCTC fought hard and played defensively very well. The team went into halftime down 2-0. "Coming into halftime down 2-0 to a traditionally top region program was extremely positive for our girls." Coach Heberling stated. He went on to say the girls followed the game plan and frustrated Louisburg in the first half. After halftime Louisburg came out on the offensive and pressured the young Lady Hawks. "Our defense was very strong today, but under consistent pressure mistakes are sure to happen." Coach Heberling said. The Hawks gave up three second half goals and finished the game with a score of 5-0. "The women worked hard today. Unfortunately, the Lady Canes had more talent and were in better condition than our team. Although we lost today I felt that the team played well and worked as a unit throughout." Coach Heberling went on to say, "This was only our second game. We are going to make mistakes still, but we will continue to improve as the season progresses."

Beth Parker was selected Player of the Game by the Louisburg Lady Hurricanes.

vs. Cape Fear and Louisburg
On September 11th and 12th the TCTC Lady Hawks Soccer team travelled to North Carolina to play their third and fourth games in eight days. With low numbers and little rest the team had an uphill battle to fight for two days. On Saturday, September 11th, the Lady Hawks battled 2009 Region X Semi-Finalists, Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC. As with the previous three games the Lady Hawks fell behind early and were down 2-0 at halftime. Coach Heberling said, "In each of our games we take a hard-hit early, and then adjust defensively. We need to work on coming out strong and not giving up the early goal." In the second half the low numbers on the Hawks bench became a factor as CFCC continued to sub fresh legs into the game. The team played well, but the depth and talent of Cape Fear was too much for the young team. The final score was 5-0 as Cape Fear put in two late second half goals to widen their lead.

Bre Kowaleski was selected POG by the Cape Fear team for her remarkable efforts in defense. Bre saved two balls from going into goal during the match.

After a tiring game on Saturday the women got just enough rest to come out and battle Louisburg again on Sunday. "Our players were tired and sore from the day before and it showed. We gave everything we had, but the game the day before was taxing on our team," said Coach Heberling. We had a good game plan, but tired legs and small injuries required us to adjust early in the game. The Louisburg squad scored three first half-goals to lead 3-0 at intermission. In the second half we made some changes and the Hawks pressured the Louisburg defense, but couldn't get close enough to their goal to score. "It was nice to see some attacking runs coming from our women today. They worked extremely hard and fought through their fatigue to try and create opportunities," stated Heberling. The final score for the game was 4-0 in favor of Louisburg.

"We had a tough first week playing four games in eight days with a limited roster. The team never gave up, stuck to the game plan, and fought hard each day. We are making improvements and look for continued growth as we progress through the season," stated Coach Heberling. The Lady Hawks play at home this week vs. Spartanburg Methodist at 4:00 pm on Wednesday (9/15) and Friday (9/17) at 3:00 in their rematch with USC-Sumter. Both games will be played at Nettles Park in Clemson. The TCTC Lady Hawks will then travel to Lancaster on Saturday (9-18) for a match with USC-Lancaster.
